Clifden Celebrates 100 Years Since the First Non-Stop Transatlantic Flight

Alcock & Brown 100 Festival will mark the remarkable achievements of aviation heroes Sir John Alcock and Sir Arthur Whitten-Brown 100 years after flying from Newfoundland, Canada and crash landing at Derrigimlagh Bog, Connemara. Making it out alive, the pioneering British aviators marked their place in history and were awarded a prize of £10,000 by the London Daily Mail in addition to knighthoods from the British Empire.

Taking place from the 11th -16th June, the summer festival is jam-packed with an incredible line-up of enthralling events in which Clifden will re-discover the amazing story of respected, unsung local heroes- Alcock and Brown.
